History
Design Consultant was established in 1990 and registered at Kegalle in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, as a Sole Proprietorship by Architect Arjanmal Chanakya Liyanage, wherein he handled many personalized houses, Bank Buildings, Hotels in both Kegalle & Kurunegala Districts on formation of the firm.
Thereafter, he established his fully equipped Project Office at Pelawatte (New Capital City) Battaramulla in 1994 and expanded the services and was responsible for the most of the faculty buildings of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, including the Master Plan of the University.
The services rendered by Design Consultant ranging from personalized houses, Factories, Hotels, Bank Buildings, Restaurants, Fuel Stations, Retirement Homes for elders, Shopping Complexes, Commercial Complexes, Training centers, Buildings for Sri Lankan Airlines Pvt Ltd. Buildings for Ministry of Fisheries, Department of Wild Life, Ministry of Higher Education, and Housing for Mass and Individual to the satisfaction of the Clients.
Design Consultant won the Sri Lanka Entrepreneur of the year 2000 merit award from the Chamber of Commerce Sabaragamuwa Province.

Architect A. C. Liyanage
Architect A. Chanakya Liyanage obtained his B.Sc (B.E.) Degree in University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka in 1980 and Joined Leading Private Consultancy Firms and involved as a Project Architect and handled "Nestle" Factory at Pannala and Colombo International Airport Redevelopment Project. He Joined Mahaweli Architectural Unit of MECA in 1983 and designed new towns and buildings in Karralliyadda, Girandurukotte, Welikanda. He obtained his Masters Degree in Architecture in 1988 from the University of Moratuwa He Joined Institute for Construction, Training & Building (ICTAD) in 1989 as an Assistant Director and served at CHPB, Training Division and Advisory Services divisions of the ICTAD till 1998. He full time involved in Design Consultant's works since 1998 to date
He obtained his Charter in 1990 from SLIA and obtained P.G. Dip in Construction Project Management in 1989. He formed Design Consultant in 1990. Presently he is a Fellow Member of Institute of Project Managers Sri Lanka (IPMSL); Associate Member of Sri Lanka Institute of Project Managers (SLAPM); Life Member of Organization of Professional Association (OPA); Chartered Environmentalist (IEPSL) and Immediate Past President of Lions Club of Battramulla and President of Old Boys Association of St. Mary's College Kegalle. He studied at St Mary's College Kegalle and Govt. Science College, Matale respectively.

Interior / Landscaping Designs
Many Clients make the mistake of confusing interior design with interior decoration, but these two disciplines are worlds apart. While it is true that design did naturally evolve from decoration, the technical know-how and skill set required for a designer are far more complex and complicated when compared to simple decoration. For instance, a designer must not only have an impeccable sense of style like a decorator, but he must also have an intimate understanding of architecture as well. Interior design and landscaping are a major part of the overall package of how a house looks and feels."landscaping" a property, you must be making home improvements on that property's grounds -- either in a practical or in an aesthetic way. In an extended sense, everything on your property that stands outside of the home itself is part of a property's landscaping. Simply put, if you can see an object in your yard, then it is affecting the overall aesthetics of the grounds of a property -- i.e., its landscaping. A house and its landscaping should be harmonious with each other. Achieving such harmony is sometimes possible intuitively; but if you're more serious about complementing your house with your landscaping, you really need to take matters to the next level -- landscape design. Landscape design is an art.

Structural
The Architect's basic services do not include the structural Engineering, where such consultancy services are provided from within the Architect's own office or by Consultants in association with the Architect, it is recommended that consortium consultancy fees be in accordance with the scales of charges of the relevant professional body. Investigate site conditions and constraints Advise the consultant on geodetic Surveys, Geotechnical Investigations and other special tests. Complete structural drawings, prepare specifications on materials and special construction details, provide information for Bill of Quantities advise on the preparation of contract documents..
Assist the Client/Consultant on pre-qualification of contractors and tender evaluation supervision and monitor progress of work, safety measures, quality control and testing, advise the consultant on matters related to the monitoring of Budget, variation Orders, Extra works and payment certificates, defects survey upon practical completion, final inspection upon practical completion

Architectural
Analyze the Client's requirement, prepare outline proposals and an approximation of the probable construction cost for the Client's primary approval, based on current area, volume or other unit cost., develop a schematic design from the outline proposal given, probable construction cost estimate, an indication of possible start and completion date. Assist the owner regarding application for preliminary planning permission to the UDA. Detail designs, construction type, quality of material co-ordinate with specialized consultants, contractors and suppliers, production information such as drawings, schedules and specifications etc.

Discuss the Client's requirements, visit the site and carry out initial appraisal, advice on the need of other Consultants' services, need for specialist contractors. Site staff, outline timetable and fee basis for further services for the Client's approval, carry out investigations, construction approaches and cost implications; advise on the need to obtain planning permissions and other similar statutory requirements. Co ordinate the works of Land Surveyors and Soil Investigation experts
